Synthetic Thatch Top Cone Synthetic Thatch Panel Synthetic Thatch Panel Close Up

Our 3-6 inch diameter poles extend to a wood or steel frame. The thatching is a synthetic replica of the natural thatch normally found on palapas. We've looked long and hard to find the best synthetic thatch. The synthetic thatch looks real,(some more then others) but has the benefit of low maintenance and longevity. Estimate life expectancy is 20+ years.

General Tools and materials needed for installations:

Usually at least 2 people
Drill with screwdriver bits
Free standing ladder
Level
Wheelbarrow and shovel (depending on main pole installation method)
Cement (depending on main pole installation method)
* Sockets and wrench (depending on frame choice)

Installation Difficulty:

2 out of 5 - This means that this type of palapa
is one of the easiest to set up and enjoy. Palmex thatch is a more complicated to install than the Viro and we would probably give it a 4 on the above scale.
*Note: Installation difficulty increases proportionally with the size of palapa.

Basic Installation Instructions

  1. Dig a hole in ground 12'' in diameter or core a hole into your bar surface 3-6
inches in diameter (depending on pole choice) and place center pole in hole
    and secure
  2. Assemble and secure top frame
  3. Attached Synthetic thatch roofing

Wood Frame Treatment:

Treating lumber provides long-term resistance to organisms that cause deterioration. It can extend the productive life of lumber by five to ten times. Wood that is exposed to moisture or soil for sustained periods of time will become weakened by various types of fungi, bacteria or insects. Both the light and dark stains provide similar amounts of protection for the wood. Darker color will protect wood better from UV rays. Clear treatment penetrates into the wood to protect from the inside out and is not a top coat. Custom colors available; to order custom colors online purchase the stain and contact us right away to select the color. If you select to have the wood treated all the wood frame will be treated.

Metal Frame Paint Options:

Center Pole Material Options:

The standard option for the center pole is a 10 foot pine pole. We also offer a cedar pole or metal pole option. The 3 pole materials all have the option of 10 or 12 feet tall pole. The 12 foot option is normally used to go into the ground to secure the palapa. If a post is set so there is 10 feet above ground lever you will have approximately 6.5 to 7 feet clearance.

Rope Kit:

Manila Rope

We use manila rope for all of our rope accessories. Manila rope has proved it's durability over many years by being the rope of choice for many outdoor and indoor applications. Some of the benefits of using this rope are that it is made of natural fiber keeping the overall natural look of the palapa. The rope is 1/4" or 1/2" and is purely for aesthetic appeal. Rope kit comes pre-cut but not pre-attached.

Do you have other ideas you want to try and just want uncut rope? Follow this link to the Rope Page. Many styles and sizes to chose from.

Fire Retardant:

Fire retardant chemicals can be added during the manufacturing of synthetic thatch, and thus can be fire resistant without added fire retardant chemicals.
